RARE 130 YEAR OLD ASHANTI FINGER RING AFRICAN ART

This is a rare example of an Ashanti finger ring dating to about 1870.
It collected by Armitage around the turn of the century.
It had great age at that time and may easily date before 1870.
The heavy bracelets were worn by women and had a secondary function
because the women fought physically among themselves and these
were used to punctuate a blow.
This ring has mass and it too, was used to fight.
Inside is .76(19.4mm) diameter.
The Armitage collection contained six similar examples of which this is the finest.
