300 YEAR OLD ANTIQUE CHINESE JADE ARCHERS RING

$120.00

Chinese archers used a long heavy bow with long arrows which required great strength and skill. The accuracy of an shot is due in large part to the skill of the archer in releasing the nock without altering the aim of the arrow. Many cultures dealt with that problem by using archers rings which fit on the thumb and provide a hard trigger like surface for the bow string to slide off rather than the fleshy surface of the thumb. (Unlike European archers, most eastern bowmen release with the thumb and not the fingers.) This is a Chinese jade thumb ring of the Ching dynasty and dates to about 1700. It's .70" (18mm) inside diameter and made of pale gray/green colored jade. Condition is as shown. 2011_arc5
